“It is especially fitting to be here during National Police Week as we remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and honor those of you who stand at the frontlines between citizens and crime.
I have attended some of the solemn ceremonies of police week in Washington, DC over the years. In those moments, I come away with admiration for the sacrifices you make every day. I also come away with a resolve that NCPC will remain a strong supporting resource to our law enforcement community.
As Cardinal Donald Wuerl said at the Blue Mass last week, “one need only look at the footage of the Boston marathon bombing to see that law enforcement, firefighters, and first responders walk into danger rather than running away.”
In the end, it seems as if National Police Week is not enough time to honor you. But I am proud to have the opportunity to be with you during this week and to say “thank you” from the National Crime Prevention Council and all those hardworking folks in the crime prevention field whom we represent.”
