Section 1

The sessions in this section lay the foundation for the program. Here young people will begin to get a “big picture” of their community. They will learn about the community’s services and the areas where there are challenges. As they learn about crime and crime prevention in their community, they will be asked to consider what they can do to help. As they complete the sessions in Section 1, class participants should begin to consider what issues they are most concerned about and want to explore further.

The materials in Sessions 9–11 will provide the background and skills necessary to take on a specific project with confidence.
