Learning Objectives:
In this session, teens will consider a number of strategies to solve the problem of gangs as they defined the problem in Session 17. In a mock legislative hearing, they will present and discuss possible options and choose which ones they think would be most effective in their community.

Community Resource People:-
Lawyer: Can help students strategize and develop strong arguments to prepare for the legislative hearing in Step C.
Remember to give the community resource person the session materials at least one week before he or she will participate in your class.
Service-Learning Project Ideas:-
Short Project: Teens can prepare a ‘First-Look’ fair that takes place during the school day. Teens must speak with school administration and coordinate a student orientation of afterschool clubs. This allows students to learn about new activities and groups that they can join.

Medium-Length Project: Students can plan a community talent show. The talent show will require teens to use their free time practicing their skills, and taking part in a positive activity. Students can sell tickets to the show to raise money for more afterschool activities, or to donate it to a local community center.

Long Project: Students can create a weekly afterschool club that suits their interests (e.g. art, soccer, basketball, dance, etc.). The teens should recruit more members and ask an adult to chaperone their meetings.
