Session 25

Learning Objectives: In this session, teens will review what they' ve learned about shoplifting as they role-play a negotiation . . .

Learning Objectives:

In this session, teens will review what they’ve learned about shoplifting as they role-play a negotiation between teens and store owners. Their challenge is to create a plan that will protect store owners from shoplifting while making sure that all teens are treated fairly and their rights are respected.

Tips to Enhance Session 25:

Community Resource People:

  •  Arbiter: Can help students prepare for, and can facilitate the negotiation in Steps B through D.

Remember to give the CRP the session materials at least one week before he or she participates in your class.

 Service-Learning Project Ideas:

  • Short Project: Students can invite another classroom of teens to attend and participate in the role-play. Then, all the students can debrief the negotiation and decide on what steps they will take to respect store property and store owners.
  • Medium-Length Project: Students can help other teens realize how many groups are victimized by shoplifting. Students can create a fact sheet describing the conflicts that can arise between different parts of society due to shoplifting, and how to prevent shoplifting.
  • Long Project: Students can teach younger children about the costs and consequences of shoplifting. Teens can write and illustrate stories to share with children in order to convey the message that shoplifting is a crime that affects everyone.
