Tami Wyrick currently serves as the executive director of the Virginia Crime Prevention Association.

She was employed by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services from January 2000 to February 2009. Ms. Wyrick was promoted to assistant section chief in the Law Enforcement Services Section and manager of the Crime Prevention Center in 2005. As assistant section chief, she was responsible for all programmatic and budgetary decisions of the Crime Prevention Center. She was also instrumental in helping to develop the Virginia Crime Analysis Network Association.

She began her employment with the Department of Criminal Justice Services as a criminal justice program analyst in charge of the Intensified Drug Enforcement Assistance (IDEA) program. She was also responsible for the Certified Crime Prevention Community Program, Certified Crime Prevention Specialist Certification Program, Private Crime Prevention Practitioner Program, Workplace Violence Program, Safety for Women Program, and Terrorism Training for Crime Prevention Specialists. She was also assigned to be the grant monitor for the Western and Southwest Regions of Virginia.

Prior to joining the Department of Criminal Justice Services, Ms. Wyrick served with the Richmond Police Department for nine years as a crime prevention specialist. She attended Virginia Commonwealth University Administration of Justice program and is a graduate of the University of Louisville – National Crime Prevention Institute and the University of Tennessee’s Victimology program.

Ms. Wyrick is a certified law enforcement general instructor, a certified instructor in Weapons of Mass Destruction, a certified crime prevention specialist, a certified alarm technician, and was a former rape aggression defense (RAD) instructor. She conducts training in workplace violence, safety plan design, self defense, personal safety, crime prevention, public speaking, and the role of the community in policing.

She was the 1999-2000 President of the Virginia Crime Prevention Association. In 2001, she won the Virginia Crime Prevention Association’s O. W. Cundiff Award for Outstanding Statewide Professional Service in the area of crime prevention. She is also a member of the Central Virginia Crime Prevention Association. Ms. Wyrick has been a guest lecturer at Virginia Commonwealth University and a presenter at many professional conferences.
