Joel Dhein has been a Glendale Police Officer for the past 22 years and in 1996 was promoted to be the police departments’ first full-time crime prevention specialist. He was also a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Prisons before starting at Glendale. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Political Science.

Officer Dhein instructs law enforcement throughout the world on media relations. Joel provides a basic “game plan” explaining how to establish media ground rules and develop a good working relationship with local and national media. Dhein worked for the Los Angeles, CA, based FOX television network as the FOX Crime Prevention and Safety Expert from 1998 to 2004. Joel has also been seen as a panel member for the Nancy Grace Show on CNN.

Officer Dhein was one of six U.S. law enforcement specialists the United States Department of State selected to represent the United States in Project Harmony in September 2001. He spent almost three weeks in Ukraine speaking to law enforcement and military officials about crime prevention and media issues. He has also made hundreds of media appearances on radio, CNN, FOX News Channel, and local television stations in Wisconsin.

In 2003, Talk One Radio made him the host of their National Radio Show “Call in on Crime” heard in over 40 cities throughout the United States and Canada. He hosted this show until 2005. In 2005, TKPN pod cast network made Officer Dhein the host of “police on the Scene with a Crime Prevention Lean” (www.policeonthescene.com) heard over the World Wide Web. The show deals with crime prevention issues and the goal is to keep yourself and your family from being a victim of crime.

In 2007, Safety Kid’s Inc. a non-profit agency that teaches children how to be safe from abduction, abuse, violence, and victimization; named Officer Dhein the Safety Kids Instructor of the Year.

In 2008, Joel became the President of the Wisconsin Crime Prevention Practitioners Association. The WCPPA acts as a permanent network of Crime Prevention Practitioners who provide leadership, foster cooperation, encourage information exchange and seek involvement from all segments of society to extend and improve crime prevention participation through the development of programs throughout Wisconsin.
