Rural Hinds County will celebrate Safe Communities Month on October 19, 2010, by sponsoring approximately 25-30 block parties. They will range from fish fries with all the fixins to dessert parties, parades, hamburger cookouts and more. Neighbors will socialize outside, showing criminals that they will not give in and stay locked in their homes. This is an excellent time to meet new neighbors, get familiar with who belongs in the neighborhood. Hopefully, they will be able to put a face with a name with a house and perhaps even a vehicle! Each gathering will have a uniformed deputy in attendance. The deputy will join in the activities, make note of specific concerns in the neighborhood.
