Crime Prevention Week

Crime Prevention Week in Ontario is November 4-10. We have a jam packed schedule for the week which includes appearances by McGruff. McGruff will kick off the week at a CP BBQ November 5th at our station where 100 kids will be in attendance to announce the winners of our Substance Abuse poster contest. We will be advising the commuity of our plan to teach Anti-Sexting during the fall semester, and Substance Abuse during the winter semester in our Hamilton schools. McGruff will also be appearing Saturday November 10 during the Santa Claus parade.

Ancaster Fair

Ancaster Fall Fair will be hosting the Hamilton Police Service to set up a booth for recruiting Auxiliary officers and volunteers. They have requested McGruff to attend to greet children and promote safe community. This fall Hamilton Police will be focusing education to students about anti-sexting/internet safety, as well as substance abuse prevention.

Wiggle Waggle Walk-a-Thon

The Wiggle Waggle Walk-a-thon is a family friendly fundraising event for SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals) of Hamilton Burlington. It is a chance for those with and without pets to come and help the animals of Hamilton/Burlington who need it most.

An elementary school in Hamilton, Ontario is hosting a fundraiser for muscular distrophy called Hop for Muscular Distrophy. The school phoned and requested McGruff attend to support the event.

Hamilton Police Service Family Picnic

The Hamilton Police host a company picnic for members' families annually. In attendance are magicians, face painting, reptile shows, bounce houses, BBQ, and this year, McGruff!

Anti-Bullying Presentation

The HPS will be presenting an anti-bullying presentation to children ages 5-8 on Monday, January 30th.  We are about to roll out our predator danger sign recognition/situational awareness presentation for grades 3-6.

Child Passenger Safety Coalition Child Seat Day   

The Hamilton Police Service partners with the Hamilton Public Health Unit, McMaster Children's Hospital and the Hamilton Child Passenger Safety Coalition for a Child Seat Day.  Other emergency services attend.  Child Identification programs are running booths, and the event brings awareness for proper child seat installations and child safety.

Nutrition Seminar   

A community service officer for HPS is starting up a nutrition program in some of our schools.  The launch of this event is on March 20th.  McGruff is going to be present for photo opportunities for the media and to encourage kids to eat healthy and exercise.

Police Week   

During Police Week in Canada (May 13th-19th), McGruff was busy during three events! McGruff attended our Annual Awards Night and appeared onstage to hand out Youth Recognition Awards to two high school students who handled bullying incidents and fund-raised in their community. McGruff also toured around Police in the Park where several community groups set up display booths. We also had basketball challenges and a BBQ. Lastly, McGruff attended the launch of our new Crime Prevention Learning Center, displaying the latest in target-hardening for homes and vehicles.  While there, he cut the cake! Amidst all the police week action, as well as a school presentation, he gave out lots of stock in silly bands, coloring books, and stickers. McGruff is a real celebrity around Hamilton!
