The Prevention Convention is the Eugene Police Department's signature crime prevention event showcasing the department and allowing us to connect with the community. This year, it will be October 16 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Sheldon High School. The free event offers extensive crime prevention education to all ages.
The event has been set up with individuals and families in mind. Adults can sit in on crime prevention workshops while kids and teens enjoy programs designed for them. There will be a host of vendors and booths at the event and exhibitions by Eugene Police special units. Attendees can come and go as they please throughout the afternoon.
Crime prevention workshops for adults and high schoolers will be in a breakout workshop style with several to choose from. Teen Extreme, for 5th through 8th graders, will be a classroom-style program designed to engage youth and allow them to explore something new (crime lab – EPD’s version of CSI, Internet safety for youth, and the opportunity to ask an officer questions). Kid Zone, for K through fourth grade kids, will offer a dozen stations for active learning. Each child will get a passport for stamping as they move through the fun and educational stations and become eligible for prizes.
Event coordinators surveyed local Spanish speakers about what topics they would most like to hear about. As a result, specific classes will be offered in Spanish
