Bullying

The strategies they will explore will help them learn how to deal with bullies and help others who are being intimidated.

Dating Violence

This set of Community Works lesson plans is designed to help you educate youth on dating violence and sexual assault: what it is, why it’s a serious problem, and what they can do about it. Youth will explore how clear communication between males and females can help prevent dating violence and acquaintance rape. Youth will also learn what to do if they are a victim of dating violence or sexual assault.

Diversity and Hate Crimes

This set of Community Works lesson plans is designed to help you educate youth on diversity and hate crimes: what it is, why it’s a serious problem, and what they can do about it. Youth will explore the differences between diversity, stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination and will learn to recognize stereotyping and the impact it can have. Youth will also examine the causes of hate crimes and consider ways to help reduce racism and hate crimes.

Underage Drinking and Drug Abuse

This set of Community Work lesson plans is designed to help you educate youth on underage drinking and drug abuse: what it is, why it’s a serious problem, and what they can do about it. Youth will explore cultural attitudes about alcohol, underage drinking, and drugs and the effects that drugs and alcohol can have on their lives. Youth will also learn the risk and realities of drug dealing and how to talk to a friend involved with dealing drugs.

Gangs

Youth will examine why gangs appeal to teens and younger children and what can happen to teens that join gangs. Youth will also analyze different strategies communities have used to solve the problem of gangs and will consider what would work best in their community.

Handguns and Conflict Management

This set of Community Works lesson plans is designed to help you educate youth on handguns and conflict management. Youth will learn to distinguish between myths and facts about handguns and will learn how guns contribute to rising violence among youth. Youth will also learn to use communication and negotiation skills to manage conflict.

Property Crimes and Vandalism

This set of Community Work lesson plans is designed to help you educate youth on property crimes and vandalism: what it is, why it’s a serious problem, and what they can do about it. Youth will explore the serious impact property crimes and vandalism have on individuals and communities. Youth will also learn how to help protect themselves and others from property crimes and will consider strategies for how to prevent vandalism

Shoplifting and Stereotypes

This set of Community Works lesson plans is designed to help you educate youth on shoplifting and stereotypes: what it is, why it’s a serious problem, and what they can do about it. Youth will explore the reasons why people shoplift and consider the costs of shoplifting on individual and communities. Youth will also be challenged to create a plan that will protect store owners from shoplifting while making sure that all teens are treated fairly and their rights are respected.

Project Planning

This set of Community Works lesson plans is designed to help you educate youth on planning a service-learning project: how to plan it, design it, and implement it. Youth will choose a specific problem in their community and consider different ways to address the problem. Youth will set goals for their project, identify materials, services, people or funds needed to complete the project and how to evaluate the project’s success. Working together, youth will decide on who will do what tasks and make a plan for thanking and rewarding all who participated in the project.
