Neighborhood Crime Watch Night @ The Bombers

Baseball event to highlight importance of public to public safety
Battle Creek, MI - The Neighborhood Crime Watch Coalition announced Neighborhood Crime Watch Night at Battle Creek Bombers' game at C.O. Brown Stadium in Bailey Park on August 11, 2012. Pregame activities will take place outside the stadium from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m, and will include representatives from local, county, and state law enforcement will be on hand with displays an information, along with fire, ambulance, and a variety of resi
dent-led public safety organizations such as the Community Emergency Response Team, RACES, and Search and Rescue, as well as kids' activities .
At 7:15 p.m., Battle Creek Police Department Chief Jackie Hampton will throw out the first pitch to start the game between the Battle Creek Bombers and the Eau Claire Express.
The event is intended to promote the Neighborhood Crime Watch Program, a program of Neighborhoods Inc., organized by a task force of local organizations and law enforcement officials. In addition to Neighborhood Crime Watch Night, the coalition has also been responsible for placing signs in several neighborhoods encouraging residents to call 911 or Silent Observer, and the distribution of the Neighborhood Diary, originally developed by the CrimeWatch Coalition and the Battle Creek Police Department.
Bill Phillips, CEO of Neighborhoods Inc., stated, "Neighborhoods Inc. is committed to supporting the efforts to raise awareness about the need for residents to report criminal activity and suspected crimes." He continued, "We view this as an essential ingredient to revitalize and energize the Battle Creek neighborhoods whose families have been so negatively impacted."
"The goal of the Neighborhood Crime Watch Coalition, the task force behind the program, is to encourage residents to improve the public safety of their neighborhood and their community," noted Laura Adams, a member of the coalition and the organizer of Neighborhood Crime Watch Night, "One person can make a difference. You can make a difference on your own by calling 911 or Silent Observer, as part of a group like CERT or Search and Rescue, or by making public safety your career."
Chief Hampton is excited and confident about the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at the Bombers' game against the Eau Claire Express, "I am a football player and an athlete," he noted, "so it shouldn't be a problem." And regardless of who wins the baseball game, he sees this event as a win-win, "Any time you have the citizens in the community working with law enforcement, the results are positive for both."
The Battle Creek Police Department is also involved in distributing a limited amount of free tickets to the event, which includes the pre-game activities, a free hot dog, chips and a beverage, and entrance to the game. Tickets are available from selected officers and at the front desk of the police station.
