On October 15th, 2010 the New York Juvenile Justice Corps will be partnering with New York City Community Cleanup  and other volunteers in a day of service to the community of Jamaica, Queens. The day of service combines the missions of both the Juvenile Justice Corps and Cleanup initiatives. The NY Juvenile Justice Corps is an AmeriCorps service program that places volunteers at project sites throughout New York City to provide wraparound interventions to young people at risk of delinquency to improve the livelihood of their families and the communities they live in. NYC Community Cleanup is a citywide initiative designed to address neighborhood hot spots and eyesores and reclaim neighborhoods that have fallen to disorder, vandalism or crime. The initiative's goal is to create meaningful community service work projects that emphasize the values of immediacy, visibility, and accountability. The joint event we are hosting on October 15th will consist of graffiti and trash removal with the mission of beautifying the region, demonstrating organized volunteerism to local residents and galvanizing them to feel pride in their nieghborhood.
