From 6 to 10 p.m. on October 5th, residents in neighborhoods throughout Greenwood are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.  Over 40 neighborhoods throughout Greenwood will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, visits from police, flashlight walks, contests, youth activities and anti-crime and drug rallies.    For the past 10 years Greenwood County held this communitywide event in August along with thousands of neighborhoods nationally.  Due to the recommendation of participating neighborhood and involved law enforcement agencies, the event will now be held annually on the first Tuesday in October.

Make A Difference Day, the largest national day of helping others, is sponsored annually by USA WEEKEND Magazine and its 700 carrier newspapers. Make A Difference Day takes place on the 4th Saturday in October each year. - Greenwood County Make a Difference day this year will focus on home safety strategies.  Crime prevention through environmental design will be the focus of events taking place
