The City of Cape Coral is challenging the entire community to get involved in preventing crime. As part of the Celebrate Safe Communities (CSC) initiative, the Cape Coral Police Department is sponsoring a Community Safety Fair to demonstrate that crime prevention is not only a Department priority but a community priority as well.
The Community Safety Fair is a great opportunity for the public to interact with law enforcement officials and learn how to prevent crime when out and about, at work or school, or in their home.
The Celebrate Safe Communities initiative is a new project designed to kick-off October as Crime Prevention month by promoting successful local law enforcement and community partnerships. The National CSC partners include National Crime Prevention Council, National Sheriffs’ Association, and the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
The Community Safety Fair will be held on Saturday, October 9 from 10 am – 1 pm at the Target parking lot on Pine Island Rd.
The Fair will feature a variety of interactive displays to teach residents about home security, gun safety, boat and bicycle safety, and personal safety/self defense.
Kids will have an opportunity to meet McGruff the Crime Dog, get their fingerprints taken, receive DNA samplings kits, and learn about stranger danger.
There will also be a shredding truck on-site for residents to bring financial documents and other sensitive records to be shredded. Information about preventing identity theft will also be available.
Additionally the Cape Coral Fire Department, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), K-9 Unit, Police Athletic League, Neighborhood Watch, Project Lifesaver, and Do The Right Thing will be on hand with information and demonstrations.
Food and drinks will be available from local vendors and Lee Memorial Blood Center will be on-site with their bloodmobile.
