October 06, 2010 –International Walk to School Day –Join Balfour Beatty Communities, Crooked River Elementary School, children and adults around the world to celebrate the benefits of walking. International Walk to School is an annual event that promotes walking for several reasons; Physical activity; Teaching safe walking skills to children; Awareness of how walk-able a community is and where improvements can be made; Concern for the environment; Reducing traffic congestion, pollution and speed near schools; Taking back neighborhoods for people on foot; Sharing time with community leaders, parents and children. The event will begin at 6:45 am with kids, parents and community leaders walking from Balfour Beatty Community Center. Walkers will arrive at the school at 7:20am. Other special activities associated with the walk include a breakfast snacks, pep rally, Sparky the Fire Dog at the Balfour Beatty Community Center.
October 16, 2010 – Bicycle Safety Event/Bicycle Rodeo - Balfour Beatty and Camden Bicycle Shop will host a free bicycle safety and Bicycle Rodeo event from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Community Center. So mosey on down to the community center and lasso up your little ones and bring them. This is a free event that will educate our residents about bicycle safety and the importance of helmets. At the rodeo, kids will have a blast completing the bicycle obstacle course and becoming more confident on their bicycles. Kids have the opportunity to learn bike navigation skills and to have their bikes checked for safety. This event is open to all children (and children at heart). Children must be accompanied by adult in order to participate. Please RSVP by October 13, 2010 if you plan to attend.
